IT Audit & Assurance

Know whether key technology controls will stand up to scrutiny.

BCS independently evaluates IT general controls, application controls and technology risk so management can understand control design, operating effectiveness, evidence quality and remediation priorities before issues become audit surprises.

The challenge

An audit should not be the first time the control environment is understood.

Technology controls often fail assurance for practical reasons: ownership is unclear, evidence does not prove what the control is meant to prove, a control exists on paper but is not performed consistently, or remediation starts too late. The result is avoidable uncertainty for control owners and management.

BCS helps create that visibility earlier. The objective is not to guarantee an audit outcome. It is to give the organisation a clearer view of how controls are designed, how they operate, what evidence exists and where remediation is needed.

What BCS delivers

Assurance that connects control intent to operating evidence.

CONTROL DESIGN

Design assessment

Review whether the control is appropriately structured to address the relevant technology or business risk.

OPERATING EFFECTIVENESS

Control performance

Assess whether controls are being executed consistently and whether available evidence demonstrates that performance.

AUDIT PREPAREDNESS

Readiness support

Prepare control owners, evidence and walkthrough narratives for internal, customer, regulatory or external assurance activity.

REMEDIATION

Issue clarity

Translate findings into accountable corrective actions, practical owners, evidence requirements and closure criteria.

Key areas of support

Focused review across the technology control environment.

IT General ControlsAccess management, change management, IT operations and other foundational technology controls.
Application ControlsAutomated and configurable controls supporting critical business processes.
SOX ITGC SupportControl walkthroughs, evidence readiness, gap clarification and remediation support.
Control WalkthroughsUnderstand control objective, ownership, frequency, systems involved and supporting evidence.
Audit ReadinessAssess likely gaps before formal scrutiny and improve the quality of supporting evidence.
Technology RiskConnect control weaknesses to the risks they create for confidentiality, integrity, availability and business operations.
How we work

A structured review without turning the engagement into a paperwork exercise.

01 — SCOPE

Define the environment

Confirm systems, processes, risks, controls, owners and assurance objectives.

02 — WALK THROUGH

Understand operation

Review how controls work in practice and what evidence is produced.

03 — ASSESS

Evaluate gaps

Consider control design, operation, evidence quality and risk exposure.

04 — REMEDIATE

Prioritise action

Clarify findings, ownership, corrective action and evidence needed for closure.

Typical deliverables

Outputs management and control owners can use.

Control assessment reportClear observations on design, operating effectiveness and control-risk implications.
Evidence readiness packDefined evidence requirements and gaps for the controls within scope.
Remediation registerPrioritised corrective actions with owners, due dates and closure expectations.
Management summaryConcise view of key risk themes, control weaknesses and decisions requiring attention.
Business outcomes

Less uncertainty when scrutiny arrives.

Stronger control ownershipTeams understand what they operate, why it matters and what evidence is expected.
Better evidence qualityEvidence is more directly tied to the control objective and period under review.
Earlier gap visibilityManagement sees weaknesses before an external party turns them into formal findings.
Clearer remediationIssues become defined actions with ownership and closure expectations.
Who this is for

Useful when assurance pressure is increasing or control confidence is low.

Organisations preparing for an auditInternal, external, customer, regulatory or SOX-related technology-control review.
Teams with recurring findingsWhere the same issues return because root causes, ownership or evidence have not been resolved.
New or changing environmentsMajor system changes, acquisitions or control redesigns that need independent review.
Management seeking better visibilityWhere leaders need a clearer view of whether key controls are actually operating as expected.
FAQ

Common questions.

Does BCS replace our external auditor?

No. BCS supports readiness, internal review, control improvement and remediation. Where independence is required, the external auditor or attestation provider retains that role.

Can you help with existing audit findings?

Yes. We can help clarify the underlying control issue, define practical remediation, establish ownership and improve the evidence used to demonstrate closure.

Do you only review ITGCs?

No. ITGCs are a common scope, but support can also include application controls, technology risk, control walkthroughs and targeted reviews of specific control areas.

Will this guarantee a clean audit?

No. No responsible readiness provider can guarantee an independent audit outcome. The work is designed to improve visibility, preparedness and control discipline.

Can the engagement focus on one problem area?

Yes. The scope can be targeted to access, change management, evidence quality or another defined control domain, or widened to a broader technology-control environment.
